What is the Smog Check Rancho Cordova Program?
The Smog Check Rancho Cordova Program is an important part of the State’s attempts to improve the air we breathe. Smog Testing inspections are intended to identify vehicles with excess emissions in order that they can be correctly repaired. The Program has significantly reduced air pollution generated by countless automobiles in California.
Who administers the Smog Check Rancho Cordova Program?
Vehicles are inspected every year by over 7,000 State-licensed and independently owned stations across the State.
How frequently does my vehicle have to get examined?
Additionally, a Smog Test is required if you sell a car that is over just four model-years old and when registering an off-road car for the first time in California.
How do I help my automobile pass a Smog Check Rancho Cordova?
Performing regular and proper maintenance depending on your owner’s guide rather than tampering with the emissions-control equipment will help improve your car or truck ‘s chances of passing a Smog Check. When the “Check Engine” light comes on, then take your car to a certified repair station as soon as you can to have the problem diagnosed-do not await the automobile ‘s next scheduled Smog Test. A blinking or flashing light signals a malfunction which should be addressed promptly to avoid serious damage to the motor or emission-control systems. Check your owner’s guide for repairs which may be covered under your vehicle maker ‘s emissions guarantee.
What are the components of a Smog Check Rancho Cordova?
Smog Check Rancho Cordova are intended to assess the quantity and type of pollutants that your motor vehicle is emitting. A Smog Test may include any of the following evaluations:
- Visual examination of emission control systems and components
- Functional inspection of the vehicle’s On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system
- Tailpipe emissions inspection
What vehicles require a Smog Check Rancho Cordova?
Gasoline-powered vehicles, hybrids, and alternative-fuel vehicles that are model year 1976 and newer require a Smog Check Rancho Cordova, with the following exceptions:
- Six model-years and newer do not need a biennial (every other year) inspection.
- Four model-years and newer do not need a change-of-ownership inspection.
To determine the first year a car is subject to a biennial or change-of-ownership Smog Check Rancho Cordova, include four or six, respectively, to the model year of a motor vehicle. For instance, a 2010 model-year automobile will initially be subject to a biennial Smog Test in 2016 (2010 6 = 2016) plus a change-of-ownership Smog Test in 2014 (2010 4 = 2014).
Diesel-powered vehicles 1998 and newer having a gross vehicle weight rating of 14,000 lbs and less require a Smog Test.
Motorcycles and electric-powered vehicles are currently exempt from the Smog Check Program.
Is the Smog Check Rancho Cordova Program biased against older vehicles?
No. Even though California law requires that the Smog Test Program to focus on high-polluting vehicles, the Smog Check Rancho Cordova Program also doesn’t require older vehicles to meet the same emissions standards as newer vehicles. Smog Test emissions criteria take under consideration the age, make and model of every car, so that a car is not held to a standard which applied when the vehicle was originally manufactured.
I have a car that is six model-years older. My DMV registration renewal note states it must possess a Smog Check, but I thought it was exempt from the biennial Smog Test condition.
A gas-powered automobile is excused from Smog Check until it is seven model-years older. Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) computers have been designed to recognize that the exemption and process your renewal accordingly. Contact DMV if you believe there’s an error. If you cannot resolve the problem with DMV, a country Referee facility could be able to help. Call the Referee Call Center at -LRB-800-RRB- 622-7733 to schedule an appointment.
What is an Enhanced Area?
An improved Area is a metropolitan area characterized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rather than being in attainment with federal health standards for ozone. Vehicles enrolled in an improved Area are subject to a treadmill emissions test on a dynamometer and may require testing at a STAR-certified station.
Have California vehicle emissions standards changed?
Yes. BAR periodically adjusts some criteria to raise their fairness. As a result, some criteria become slightly more stringent than they were formerly and a few slightly more lenient. California’s emissions criteria consider the model-year, automobile make and model, and gross weight of the motor vehicle. Older cars have significantly less rigorous criteria than newer ones. No elderly vehicle is held to the same criteria as a newer, more technologically advanced vehicle. Allowances are made for normal wear and tear in a vehicle’s emissions control system as it ages. Standards are established by means of a regulatory process and are made available for public comment before they’re adopted. The previous alteration occurred in 2010.
